Biography
Born in 1974, Deodanda's childhood years were divided between growing up in the old Diamond town of Kimberley in the Northern Cape and on their family farm in the rural district of Bultfontein in the heart of the Free State. Despite her childhood love for art, her tertiary studies focused on animal science and a career as a medical research writer. It was only much later in her life, at the age of 33, that she decided to pick up the paint brushes for the first time. What started as a hobby, soon became a serious pursuit. After a long and stressful career in pharmaceutical research, it was time for a much-needed change, and at the start of 2016, she decided to pursue her art full-time.
As someone who loves God with all her heart, it is not surprising that her art would reveal His magnificent creation. Deodanda became known for her cattle portraits and voice against brutal farming practices. Growing up on the farm provided endless memories from which she continues to draw inspiration for her work.
It was her lifelong fascination with the paintings of the old masters that fueled her decision to take up oil painting. As part of her artistic exploration, she still enjoys pouring her soul now and then into some of her favourite old masterworks by recreating them into new exciting themes that allow her to push the boundaries of her artistic skills and expand her style into new directions.
Deodanda always wanted to use her paintings as inspirational messages that would not only bring artistic beauty into people's homes but also provide motivation and hope. Weaved into the titles and messages of every painting are pieces from her life's story and experiences. Most of her paintings come with a motivational message that is as unique as the art piece it represents.
